The main part of the sentence is ：".....we may think of......,while the density-independent effects act to...."; 1. "as the signal ecologists are trying to isolate and interpret". The above sentence is a Attributive Clauses attached to "growth parameters". 2. "one that tends to make the population increase from relatively low values or decrease from relatively high ones". The word "one" is an Appositive attached to the words "growth parameters". And "that tends to make the population increase from relatively low values or decrease from relatively high ones" is an apposive attached to the word "one". I cannot type Chinese characters here. So I have to explain the structures of the sentence in English. Hope the explanation above can help solve your problem.  |

In order to understand the nature of the ecologist's investigation, we may think of the density-dependent effects on growth paramaters as the signal （ ecologists are trying to isolate and interpret括号中的内容修饰signal）, one that tends to make the population increase from relatively low values or decrease from relatively high ones（one 我想应该也是修饰signal吧。我们可以把density-dependent 在growth paramaters 中的作用看作一个signal，这个signal的作用是人口少时在density-dependent 作用下会增加，人口多时在density-dependent 的作用下会减少）, while the density-independent effects act to produce noise in the population dynamics（而density-independent 则起着一个类似噪音的作用）. 注意了，signal和noise应该都是相匹配的，signal相当于起到信号作用的“好”波，而noise是起到干扰作用的“坏”波。 个人浅见，希望能帮助到你··· |
