求助：为什么用“humble appreciation”

看到一篇文章，是描写总统祝贺记者们圣诞节快乐的话： 原文是这样说的： "Christmas has come early this year," Cheney quipped to the appreciative crowd of reporters in the White House press briefing room. "But in all seriousness, you truly deserve this gift, which I happily bestow on you in great thanks and humble appreciation for all you've done these past five years. May you make the most of it." 感觉理解成谦虚的赞赏之类的好像不太对， 请问我们应该怎样正确理解“humble appreciation”一词的意思？ 在什么情况下需要我们这么表达呢？ 谢谢！ 祝各位元旦快乐！ |
