【Funny】WaterMelon, Xigua or Shuigua

Now I am eating watermelon and I find that this kind of melon is really full of water. English are clever to create this word. I think we Chinese name it Xigua (西瓜) just because we brought it from the Western world (actually Africa), just like tomato, i.e. Xihongshi (西红柿). If we Chinese were the earliest human beings to plant the watermelon, we may call it Shuigua (水瓜)?? Do you think so? And could you find other English words enable to show the smart of the early English, though they don't deserve it in too many cases. [ Last edited by robiwang on 2010-8-7 at 20:02 ] |
