Dr. Ge Li Awarded San Diego Bio-Pharma Achievement Award 2010 On June 5, 2010, Dr. Ge Li was awarded with San Diego Bio-Pharma Achievement Award at the 9th Annual Symposium on Biopharmaceuticals - San Diego Bio-Pharma Conference 2010, in recognition of his constant efforts and commitment in building a “fully integrated R&D service platform” and helping the global pharma industry to improve the success of discovery and shorten the time of development of pharmaceuticals, as well as his tremendous contribution to the initiation and leadership of CRO industry in China. San Diego Bio-Pharma Achievement Award is well-known for its professionalism and justice. Recipients of this award during the past years include Dr. K. C. Nicolaou (2009), Professor of the Scripps Research Institute and UCSD; Dr. Shu Chien (2008), Director of the Whitaker Institute of Biomedical Engineering at University of California, San Diego (UCSD), the first American Academician of Chinese origin elected to the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academic of Engineering, the National Medical Academy and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences of the United States; and Dr. Roger Tsien (2007), a Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) investigator at UCSD and winner of the 2008 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. The 9th Annual Symposium on Biopharmaceuticals was organized by Sino-American Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Professionals Association (SABPA) and San Diego Chinese American Association (SDCAA) and was co-organized by the American Chemical Society, San Diego Section (ACS-SD) and UCSD Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Services (UCSD TTIPS). The annual symposium on Biopharmaceuticals strives to strengthen connections between academia and industry, and between technology innovation and product development. The symposium provides a platform to present the most recent advances in the life cycle of drug discovery and development and strategies to reinvent biopharma R&D business model with the aim to enhance efficiency and success rate from both regional and global perspectives. And the goal of the symposium is to promote innovation, collaboration, and support advancement of San Diego’s biopharmaceutical research and development. “I am very honored to be granted this award.” commented Dr. Ge Li. “This is far more beyond a recognition to me as an individual. The award is also a recognition of our 4200 excellent employees, and WuXi's integrated R&D service business model as well as its comprehensive R&D capacity and capabilities. Pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical companies and CRO companies need to work together to introduce more drugs to the market more efficiently and cost effectively to benefit more patients.” 李革博士荣获2010圣地亚哥生物-制药成就奖 2010年6月5日，在2010年圣地亚哥生物-制药会议第九届生物制药年度座谈会上，李革博士被授予2010圣地亚哥生物-制药成就奖，以表彰他为建立一体化服务平台，帮助全球制药企业提高新药研发成功率，缩短新药研发时间所做的持续努力，以及他对中国CRO行业的创立及发展所作出的巨大贡献。 圣地亚哥生物-制药成就奖以它的专业和公正性而闻名。2007年获此殊荣的是美国圣地牙哥加利福尼亚大学生物化学及化学系及霍华德·休斯(HHMI)医学研究所教授、2008年诺贝尔化学奖得主钱永健(Roger Tsien)博士；2008年以及2009年的获奖者分别是美国加州大学圣地牙哥分校惠特克生物医学工程研究院院长、首位同时担任美国“四院”(美国国家科学院、美国国家工程学院、美国国家医学院，以及美国艺术和科学院)院士的华裔科学家钱煦（Shu Chien）博士，以及斯克里普斯研究所教授K. C. Nicolaou博士。 第九届生物制药年度座谈会由中美生物医学和药物专家协会(SABPA)以及圣地亚哥中国人协会(SDCAA)主办，由美国化学学会圣地亚哥分会(ACS-SD)以及加州大学圣地亚哥分校技术转移及知识产权服务处协办。 此次年度座谈会旨在加强学术界与产业界、以及加强技术革新与产品开发之间的联系。座谈会上讨论了有关新药研发周期的最新动态以及重新打造生物制药研发商业模式的战略，希望无论从地区还是全球的角度提高新药研发效率以及成功率；座谈会旨在提升新药研发创新力、合作能力以及为圣地亚哥生物制药的进步提供支持和帮助。 “我非常荣幸能够获此殊荣。”李总评论道。“这不仅仅是对我个人的认可，也是对药明康德4200名优秀员工、以及药明康德一体化服务业务模式及综合服务能力的认可。制药、生物制药及研发服务外包企业应携手努力，将高效率、高性价比的新药投入市场，造福更多的病人。” 据美国《世界日报》报道，美国加利福尼亚州第二大城市圣地亚哥正在经历从军港、旅游胜地向高新科技主要基地的历史性转变。密尔肯智库的评估报告指出，圣地亚哥的生物技术与制药行业每年向市场成功投放的新产品、为社会提供的就业机会、对开办新公司的吸引力，都已在全美名列前茅。许多制药业巨擘如辉瑞(Pfizer)、Merck、Dow、Novartis纷纷西迁到此，或设分厂、分部于圣地亚哥。 另据圣地亚哥“中美生物技术及制药协会”(SABPA)会长贺耘提供的数字，圣地亚哥这一行业的从业人员约为6.73万人，占全美同行业员工总数的34%。 贺耘指出，根据粗略的统计，圣地亚哥生物医学行业中的科学家、教授、董事长、总经理与其他员工约有20%是华裔。换言之，已有1.3万多名炎黄子孙耕耘在这一新兴的领域。他们中不少人是各自公司或机构的“灵魂人物”，在研发新产品、申请专利、发表论文、培养专业人才等方面发挥关键性的作用。还有一些人迈出了创业的步伐，当地的500多家生物医学公司中，华裔拥有或与他人共同拥有的至少有30家。 [ Last edited by zlwcw on 2010-6-9 at 20:23 ] |
