1.（Obeying the Traffic Rules遵守交通规）
遵守交通规则是非常重要的。大部份的交通事故来自於不守交通规则。像闯红灯与超速等特别是车祸的主要原因。当然，不仅是开车的人，行人也有同样的责任来遵守交通规则。仅当我们密切遵守交通规则时，我们的交通才能有所改善。
It is very important to obey (follow; observe) the traffic rules. Most of the traffic accidents result from (are due to; are caused by) disobedience of the traffic rules. Such acts as running through the red light and speeding are especially the major causes of car accidents. Of course, not only the drivers but the pedestrians have the same responsibility to observe the traffic rules. Only when we follow closely the traffic rules, will our traffic be made improved (better).

2.法律在现代社会是不可或缺的，因为它有两种功能。第一，我们生活在一个很复杂的社会，法律能够保护我们生命及财产的安全。第二，法律对於犯罪者加以适当的惩罚，因此它能帮助维持社会的秩序。尽管如此，但仍然有很多人违犯法律而犯罪。要改善这种情况，政府应该更严格地施行法律。
The law is indispensable in modern society because it has two function. First(ly), we live in a very complicated society. The law can protect the safety of our lives and property. Second(ly), the law imposes proper punishment (penalty) on the criminals so that it can help (to) maintain social order. In spite of that (For all that), there are still many people who violate the law and commit crimes. To improve this condition (situation), the government should enforce the law more severely.
3.很多意外发生，只因为一些人认为自己太聪明人不用遵守交通规则。首先行人应尽量利用天桥及地下道。粗心大意擅自穿越马路的人常给自己惹来不幸，给人惹来一片混乱。其次，驾驶人应当体贴他人。在每个交叉路口、圆环或任何危险的地方，最好减速慢行。就如每个人都知道的，在恶劣气候或交通阻塞时开车，是我们耐心及技巧的真正考验。总之，当人人皆能了解并遵守交通规则，意外伤亡才能减少。
Many accidents happen only because some people think they are too clever to have to obey the traffic rules. ~First of all, pedestrians are supposed to take advantage of overpasses and underpasses. Careless jaywalkers often bring about misfortunes to themselves and confusion to others. Secondly, drivers should be considerate to others. They had better slow down their speed at every intersection or circle, or any other dangerous area. As everyone knows, it is a true test of our patience and skill to drive in foul weather or in a traffic jam. To sum up, casualties can be reduced when everyone knows and follows the traffic rules.
4.今天早上的天气又湿又冷。我穿了一件厚毛衣并围上一条红围巾。那条围巾是我生日时妈妈送我的生日礼物。妈妈去日本旅行时特别为我挑选的。我很喜欢那条围巾，我一定会好好珍惜它。
It's wet and cold this morning. I'm wearing a thick sweater and a red scarf as a birthday present. My mother gave me the scarf as a birthday present. My mother especially picked it up for me when she went on a trip to Japan. I like the scarf very much and I'll cherish it.
5.不用说，大部分的高中生不喜欢穿制服的。他们往往认为穿制服是单调的、无聊的、令人不舒服的。尽管这些抱怨，我认为因为两点理由制服是必须的。第一点，制服让人了解谁是学生、谁不是学生。第二点，学校的制服可以在同校的学生中产生一种亲近的感觉。
It is obvious that most senior high school students do not like to wear uniforms. They usually regard uniforms as monotonous, boring, and uncomfortable. In spite of these complains, I think uniforms are needed for two reasons. First, uniforms let us know who is a student and who is not. Second, school uniforms can help to create a intimate feeling among the students of the same school.
6.林先生的童年是在虚混时光及惹事生非中度过的。直到他读了一本伟人传记，他才了解自己错得有多离谱。那位伟人如何克服困难及承受挫败，在他心中留下了深刻的印象。自从那时起，他就一直认真於他所做的每件事并乐於学习。现在他是位成功的企业家并随时帮助有需要的人。
Mr. Lin's childhood was spent fooling around and getting into scrapes. He did not realize that he had gone far wrong until he read a biography of a great man. How that great man overcame his difficulties and took defeat left a deep impression on his mind. Since then, he has been enthusiastic about everything he does and has taken delight in learning. Now he is a successful industrialist and is ready to help everyone in need.
7.随著工业的发展和人口的成长，噪音增加了。人们愈来愈关心噪音污染。长久暴露於嘈杂的环境中，会引起一些身体的和心理的问题。遭受失眠和听障的人的比例很高。不用说，我们应该采取措施来阻止噪音污染。
With the development of industry and growth of the population, noise increases. People become more and more concerned about noise pollution. Long exposure to noisy surroundings may result in some physical and mental problems. The percentage of people suffering loss of sleep and hearing loss is very high. It goes without saying that we should take measures to stop noise pollution.
8.我们不需要逐页地阅读。前几段将使我们熟悉作者将讨论的东西。而最后几段将给予我们内容的一般概念。当我们阅读时，设法找出每一段的重点，并且不断地问问题。我问的问题愈多，我们的阅读将愈有效率。
It's not necessary for us to read a book page by page. The first few paragraphs will acquaint us with what the author will discuss. And the last few paragraphs will give us a general idea of the content. As we read, try to find the main point of every paragraph and keep on asking questions. The more questions we ask, the more efficient our reading will be.
9.嗜好让学生在假期中有事可做，也防止老人退休后觉得无聊。有些人喜欢收集外国邮票或硬币，而有些人喜欢收集贝壳或稀有石头。它们不花什么钱，而人人可以叁与。一种好的嗜好不仅带给我们乐趣，也带给我们知识。有一件值得我们注意的事；不要沈迷如赌博、吸毒等坏嗜好。Hobbies make students have something to do on holidays and prevent old men from feeling bored after they retire. Some people like to collect foreign stamps or coins, yet others like to collect seashells or rare stones. They do not cost much and everyone can take part in them. A good hobby gives us not only pleasure but also knowledge. One thing which deserves our attention is that don't ever indulge in bad hobbies such as gambling or using drugs.
10.每个人在生命中都应该有一个目标。这目标带领我们，并且给我们生命的方向。没有目标，我们会觉得迷失了，并且我们的生命可能会浪费掉了。生命中有了目标，我们可以毫不犹豫地往前。我们应该尽力使我们的生命值得活下去。
Everybody should have an aim in life. The aim guides us and gives us direction to our lives. Without an aim, we may feel lost and our lives may be wasted. With a noble goal in life, we can advance without hesitation. We should try our best to make our life worth living.
11.（七十七年日大联考试题）英语是一种重要的语言，所以很多人都在学习。许多中国学生认为学习说英语很难。但是只要经常练习，任何困难都可以克服。会背课本上的对话，并不表示会说英语。最重要的是，要能用英语说自己想说的话。
English is an important language, so many people are learning it. Many Chinese students think ( that ) it is very difficult ( hard ) to learn to speak English. But if you keep practicing speaking English, you can overcome any difficulty ( difficulties ). Memorizing the dialogues in the text does not mean ( that ) you are able to speak English. We have a great many choices: music, dance, drama, movies, sports, travels, and so on.

Money can buy beautiful furniture but cannot replace love and understanding of a family. A lot of people work like slaves just because they want to earn as much money as possible. In my opinion, don't envy people who are possessed of ( who have ) great wealth. Try to be contented with ( content with ) what you have already had.
20.决定是否要上大学，是今日年轻人所面对的最重要的抉择之一。有些人认为上大学只是浪费光阴，因为它无法提供任务经验。有些人却认为大学很重要，因为大学扩大你的知识。你可以学会独立，以便将来能适应社会。除此之外，大学教育你自己思考，并为自己做决定。
To decide ( Deciding ) whether or not to go to college is one of the most important choice that young people are faced with today. Some people think that to attend college is a waste of time because it cannot offer working experience. Some people think college is important because it enlarges ( enriches ) your knowledge. You can learn to be independent, so that you can adapt yourself to the society in the future. In addition ( Besides ), college education teaches you to think for yourself and make your own decisions.

21.有人认为，如果说了谎而能逃过惩罚，那么说谎并不很糟。然而，我想要指出说谎的几个坏处。例如，说谎的人冒著伤害别人的大风险。再者，我们应该记住，说谎的人也会伤害自己。说谎就好像在欺骗你自己，不论是否被逮到。
Some people think that telling a lie is not such a bad thing if they can get away with it. However, I would like to point out several disadvantages of telling a lie. For instance, a liar takes a big risk of hurting someone else. Furthermore, we should remember that the person who lies also hurts himself. Telling a lie is like cheating yourself, no matter if you get caught or not.
22.在学期结束时，我为暑假做了一连串的计划。暑假的前十天，我计划要做个环岛旅行。旅游完毕，我期望在英文写作及阅读上进步，以期於明年大学联考得高分。所以我报名叁加张氐英文教室，结果证明选择是正确的。如今暑假快近尾声，我觉得这个暑假是美好的。
At the end of last semester, I made a series of plans for the summer vacation. I planned to make a trip around the island during the first ten days of summer vacation. But one thing is surely true; hamburger will be the favorite food for youngsters here.

25.能源危机是现今全球性的问题。水力、电力、石油、天然气是每日必需，但却不是取之不尽的。因此，节能人人有责。此外，科学家及工程师需通力合作开发新能源。难以想像，若我们今日耗尽全球的能源，五十年后的地球会是什么模样。
Energy crisis is a global issue today ( a worldwide problem nowadays ). Water, electricity, gasoline ( petroleum ), and gas are daily necessities but they will be used up ( exhausted ). Therefore, it is everyone's responsibility to conserve energy. Besides, scientists and engineers should work together to develop new sources of energy today. It's hard to imagine what our earth would be like fifty years from now if we used up all the energy in the world.

I have a lot of bad habits. Among them, the worst one is postponement ( procrastination ). Everyday I tell myself that I must do things at once, but I always delay doing them. As a result, I am always doing the work that was not finished yesterday. I feel that I am idle and lacking in efficiency. I make up my mind to shake off this bad habit. I will make a list of the things that I should do in the morning. Then I must do the jobs according to my schedule later the day. In this way I can get rid of the bad habit of postponement.
27.代沟是孩子与父母、老师之间在社会价值或做事方法的不同，而导致缺乏了解及冲突。我十八岁，而父亲四十五岁，可是在我们家没有代沟。最主要原因是我们彼此尊重对方的观点。当意见不一致时，我们会用心聆听对方的意见。唯有沟通才能跨越这一道无可避免的鸿沟。
A generation gap is the difference in social values and manners between children and their parents, teachers and relatives that causes lack of understanding and confrontations. I am eighteen and my father is forty-five, but we have no generation gap in our family. The main reason is that we respect each other's point of view ( opinion ). When we have different opinions, we will listen carefully to each other. Only communication can cross this inevitable ( unavoidable ) gap.

The telephone plays a very important role ( part ) in the modern society. In the past, people kept in touch with each other by letter. However, people had to wait a long time to receive news from their friends. Nowadays ( At present ), because of the telephone, we can talk with our friends within seconds. The telephone has had a great influence on our lives.
32.青少年喜欢看电影，但好电影一票难求。所以假有些人宁愿在家看书也不愿和人挤电影院。大家都知道读书之於心灵犹如食物之於身体。然而我们应该要有分辨好书与坏书的能力。唯有读好书我们才能从中获益，这是毋庸置疑的。
Teenagers like to go to the movies but tickets for good movies are hard to get. Therefore, some would rather sit at home reading than fight the crowds to see a movie in the holidays. Everybody knows that reading is to the mind as food is to the body. However, we should have the ability to distinguish between good books and bad ones. Only by reading good books can we get benefit from them. There is no doubt about it. ( = There is no doubt that only by reading good books can we get benefit from them. = Undoubtedly, only by reading good books can we get benefit from them. )
33.我时常很害怕穿越交通繁忙的街道；我总是走到红绿灯处，使用行人穿越道。不过有好几次，我还是被闯红灯急驶而过的车辆吓坏了。因此，当绿灯亮起时，我仍需要观望两个方向，查看来往的交通。有一次在建国中学附近的十字路口，我看见了车祸，一个行人被一部大卡车撞倒，接著又被跟著来的摩托车压过。为了安全起见，每一个人都要遵守交通规则，这是非常重要的。
I am often very much afraid to cross a busy street; I always walk to the traffic light and use the crosswalk. But many times I have been frightened by the speeding vehicles which run through the red light. Therefore, when the light changes to green, I still need to look both directions to check the traffic. Once at the intersection near Chien-kuo High School, I saw an accident: a pedestrian was knocked down by a truck and then run over by a motorcycle coming from behind. For safety, it is very important for everyone to obey the traffic rules.
34.出门旅行带妥衣服是很重要的。如果要到寒冷的地方，务必要带暖和的衣服。但如果要游览炎热的地方，则需要单薄的而不是厚重的衣服。还有，在城里可能穿漂亮的衣服，在乡下则是穿舒适的衣服。最后切记，不管要到那里旅行，都别带太多的衣服。
It is important to take the right clothes when you go out on a journey. If you are going to a cold place, be sure to bring warm clothes. But if you are visiting a hot place, you will need light rather than heavy clothes. Besides, you may wear fine clothes in the city but comfortable clothes in the country. Finally, remember not to carry too many clothes no matter when you are traveling.
35.我的同班同学玛丽是个好学生，在教室里她和我邻座。她的特点是异常勤奋而且乐於助人。那就是为什么她如此受我们欢迎的理由。然而，她容易紧张，况且，她常匆匆忙忙。那就是为何她绰号叫「匆匆」。
My classmate Mary is a good student and she is seated next to me in the classroom. She is characterized by being exceptionally diligent ( industrious ) ( hard-working ) and helpful. That's why she is so popular with us. However, she easily gets nervous ( tense ) and moreover, she is often in a hurry. That's why she is nicknamed Hurry.
36.在所有运动中，我最爱慢跑。慢跑对人益处良多。它会使心脏变得更强壮，而且帮人减肥。然而，慢跑时你应穿著一双很好的慢跑鞋以使你的脚不会受伤。况且，如果你是刚开始慢跑的人，速度不要太快。
Of ( Among ) all the exercises, I like jogging best. Jogging will do you a lot of good. It will make the heart stronger and help you lose weight. However, when jogging, you should wear a good pair of jogging shoes to prevent your feet from being ( getting ) injured ( wounded ). Moreover, if you are a beginner, don't go too fast.

In my opinion, English is a must, for nowadays English is regarded as the most universal of all the languages in the world. In international affairs, English has played a very important part in the communication among people from different countries. Like it or not, English has become a common language in international conferences, world scholarship and world trade, let alone in global traveling. As far as a student like me is concerned, to master English has become all the more important for my pursuit of knowledge and higher education. Running through red lights and speeding are common traffic violations. Driving without a license, without keeping a proper distance or without slowing down at crossroads may also lead to car accidents. A large number of accidents are caused by drunken driving, and physical and mental fatigue of drivers. Bad road conditions and heavy traffic as well as mechanical problems may also result in traffic accidents. On the other hand, pedestrians who jaywalk and disregard traffic signals are also responsible for accidents.

In our daily lives we are weighed down with heavy work load, pressure from work or studies, and tension. Sometimes it is only inevitable that we feel depressed and worried. To put our emotional life in order, we have to find out ways to soothe our worries or anxieties. It helps to get outside, taking a long walk and clearing our head. And sometimes sharing our worries with friends is the best method of easing them. In addition, listening to music, going to the movies, taking exercise, or talking things over with a close friend also helps. They can provide an outlet for our turbulent feelings. No wonder that the authorities concerned would pledge to strictly crack down on this illegal conduct.

For the past 5 years the way people eat has undergone a drastic change. In the past, we used to live on rice or noodles. However, nowadays people prefer to go to the fast food store to enjoy hamburgers and fried chickens. This explains why more and more fast food stores are opened in Taiwan. As a matter of fact, it has become a trend to dine in fast food restaurants in many parts of the world. It is not that fast food is more delicious. All these things are closely related to the heart disease and do harm to health. But, despite these defects, fast food still appeals to a lot of people, especially the teenagers. After all, it is both convenient and fashionable to dine in fast food restaurants.

They tend to ignore the importance of diet. More and more people prefer to have fast food. Convenient as fast food is, it doesn't meet the demand of nutrition. Fast food is called junk food because it contains too many fats, calories and too much cholesterol. Therefore, if possible, we should avoid dining in the fast food store.

With the development of economy, the people on Taiwan are better off than before. For the past ten years, the way we wear has undergone a drastic change. In the past, we used to wear coarse clothes made of synthetic fiber. However, nowadays we prefer to wear clothes of high qualities. Expensive as these clothes are, a lot of people can afford to purchase them. As a matter of fact, some people wear only the clothes with famous brands no matter how high their prices may be. Is it necessary to buy expensive clothing? In my opinion, as long as our clothes are clean, comfortable and nicelooking, we should not care whether they have well-known brands. We should know better than to spend too much money on clothes. After all, expensive clothing does not necessarily mean that we are superior to others. Therefore, as far as I am concerned, I seldom follow the trend to buy expensive clothes with famous brands.

Everyone is born equal, and everyone has the right and freedom to seek for his dream. Blue jeans can best stand for such a spirit. Dressed in blue jeans, people look young and vigorous. What is more, we no longer judge others by their clothing. Blue jeans won't show how rich we are. Nor will they let on what our social status is. In other words, blue jeans narrow the gap and obscure the difference among people. Naturally, it has become a world-wide trend to wear blue jeans.

Taiwan is a densely populated country. With the increase of the population, the space which people can live in becomes smaller and smaller. Inevitably, the price of the land is always soaring. As a result, the price of the house becomes extremely high. A lot of people toil hard all the year round, but they can't afford to buy a small house. This sad fact depresses a lot of people. After all, if our efforts are destined to bear no fruit, what is the use of working hard? Nowadays, housing has become a serious social problem. On no account can this problem be ignored. If people become hopeless and stop working hard, our society won't make progress any more. This will do great damage to our society. Therefore, it is time our government took proper measures to solve housing problems.

With the development of economy, city life becomes widely different from country life. City people lead the nervous and busy life. They have to bear the heavy traffic, dirty air and various kinds of din. Compared with city life, country life is more peaceful and relaxing. All the cities in the world are faced with some difficult problems. One of them is heavy traffic. For city people, traffic jams are a nightmare which they cannot get rid of. Besides, it is a painful thing for most drivers to look for parking space. In order to solve these traffic problems, city governments used to broaden roads and build more parking lots. However, these measures don't seem to work well. Because more and more people move to the city, and because a lot of people are rich enough to afford private cars, broad roads and large parking lots are soon crowded with various kinds of vehicles. Nowadays, more and more cities ease their heavy traffic by building subways or mass transit systems. They are not only convenient but also fast. We are glad Taipei's mass transit system is under way now. In the future, the traffic of Taipei will be greatly improved.

English is the last subject that I like. Compared with other subjects, English is rather difficult to learn. As far as we know, if we want to master a foreign language, we are obliged to practice speaking it. Unfortunately, there are few people who speak English in the environment where we live. In other words, I cannot often practice what I have learned. Consequently, in spite of the fact that I have learned a great many new words, idioms and grammar rules by heart. I don't know how to use them and before long I forget them completely. It is natural that I don't make any progress in English. Even though I have learned English for six years, I still can't speak English well. My efforts don't bear any fruit. When it comes to learning English, my heart is always full of frustrations. That is the reason why I have a great dislike for English.

81.（考试）考试是必要的。经由考试，学生能发现他们已经学了什么以及他们没学到什么。如果没有考试，他们将不知道如何改进他们的学习。同样地，唯有藉著考试老师才能了解他们的学生程度。以这观点而言，我们可说学生和老师皆从考试制度得到好处。然而，太多的考试是有害的。它们增加学生和老师的负担。为了考试的关系，他们必须放弃他们的休闲活动。更糟的是，每次有考试，许多学生熬夜。此外，考试的结果总是引起学生的焦虑和烦恼。如果他们的生活充满了考试，他们注定要生活地不快乐。因此，为了学生的健康和幸福我希望在学校里没有太多的考试。
Examinations are necessary. Through examinations, students can find out what they have learned and what they have not learned. Without examinations, they would not know how to improve their learning. Similarly, only by means of examinations can teachers understand the level of their students. In the light of this, we may well say the system of examinations benefit both students and teachers. However, too many examinations are harmful. They add to the burdens of the student and the teacher. For the sake of examinations, they cannot but give up their recreation. What is worse, many students burn the midnight oil whenever there is an examination. Besides, the results of the examinations always bring about the worry and anxiety of the students. If their life is filled with examinations, they are destined to live unhappily. Therefore, just for the sake of students' health and happiness. Living in the country has many advantages. One of them is that country life is more economical. In the country, the expense of living is lower. Food and louses are not so expensive as those in the city. Another advantage of country life is that it is more tranquil. The pace of living is slower in the country. You won't hear the deafening noise of the city.
92.人类来自於自然。可想而知接近自然是人类的本性。美丽的大自然景色不仅令人放松心情，而且令人精神抖擞。因此，我们该利用时间接近自然。

Perhaps some students get nervous on the night before an examination. They burn the midnight oil and cannot have a good sleep. As far as I am concerned, I am not worried about examinations because I always study hard and have a good understanding of what the teachers have taught. As usual, I go to bed at eleven o'clock on the eve of an examination so that I may have the energy to cope with the examination the next day. I my opinion, it is harmful to sit up too late, and it doesn't pay to prepare for the examination at the expense of health. Therefore, I suggest that students should pay more attention to their school work even though there are no examination. In this way, they don't have to stay up too late on the eve of an examination.

Newspapers are one of the most important communication media in our life. In other words, the information in the newspapers not only broadens the range of my knowledge but also enables me to keep up with the times. Besides, there are some good literary works in the supplement of the newspapers. In the busy life, it is a great enjoyment to spare some time to read the good essays and poems in the newspapers. they always bring me some new concepts and inspiration, and enrich my mind. No wonder reading the newspapers has played an important part in my life.

111.（地震）九月二十一日清晨，台湾中部发生强烈的地震。山崩、屋倒造成生命财产的重大损失。地震是无法预测的天然灾害。我们平时应注意防震演习和建物的结构。如此，地震引起的损害才能降至最低。
On the early morning of September 21, a violent earthquake happened in the central part of Taiwan. Landslides, collapsed houses caused serious losses of lives and property. Earthquakes are natural disasters which cannot be predicted. We should stress emphasis on quake drills and the structure of buildings on ordinary days. In this way, the damage brought about by earthquakes can be reduced to the minimum.
112.（现代旅行）现代的交通似乎是愈来愈快速了。没多久以前，环球之旅是漫长而危险的。如今喷射机可在几小时之内环绕世界。不久的将来，即使到月亮旅行也是可能的。我担心的是，我们是否有足够的准备来迎接新的也纪的到来。
Transportation today seems to be getting faster and faster. Not very long ago, a trip around the world was long and dangerous. Now a jet plane can go around the world in hours. In the near future, even the trip to the moon may also be possible. What I am worried about is whether we are prepared enough for the coming of the new century.

After women's liberation, most modern women have been conscious of their obligations and the roles they have to play at home or in society. They know how to make use of born features such as patience, carefulness, and diligence and perform as well as men. They are becoming more and more important and have influence in every field. The increase in female participation in the workplace has greatly changed the lifestyle of numerous families. But in Taiwan, most married women who have their own careers are still devoted to their husbands and children.
114.（读报）从小我就养成阅读报纸的习惯。报纸不仅提供我最新消息并且满足我知的欲望。社论及连环图画最吸引我。前者有助於我的写作能力；后者可舒解我的课业压力。报纸是我的精神食粮；我的生活中不能没有它。
I have formed a habit of reading newspapers since I was young. Newspapers not only provide me with the latest information but also satisfy my desire to know. Editorials and comic strips appeal to me most. The former are helpful to my writing ability and the latter relieve me of my pressure from schoolwork. Newspapers are my spiritual food; I can't live without it in my life.

Parents and teachers are worried a bout the effect of television violence on children. Many children watch television for several hours every day and many children's programs have too much violence and terror. There has been a general increase in violence in society in recent years but experts are not sure if TV is the main reason. Yet, they point out that the situation is dangerous because TV teaches children at an early age to accept violence as a natural part of life.

People usually like to go on picnics, take trips, visit friends and relatives on holidays, while my family and I like to go camping. This is because there are quite a few parks with good campgrounds in our area. Sometimes there are too many people in the park, but we do not mind, for we can always find some ways to have fun. For example, we go on hikes, and explore the country around us. The view of the mountains, fields and rivers is really beautiful. After dark, we sit around the campfire, and talk for hours. During this time, we can really forget all our problems and enjoy the outdoors.
