Specifically, the lifetime of C-dots is one of the most useful methods to distinguish static quenching from dynamic quenching by measuring the fluorescence lifetime in the absence and presence of quencher molecules. If the two values are almost the same, the quenching process is static quenching. If not, it is dynamic quenching. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the associated fluorescence lifetime is calculated to be 3.84 ns without Hg2+ and 3.81 ns in the presence of Hg2+ (Fig. S1, Supporting Information).
