We compared the amount of adsorbed fibrinogen
from human plasma on unmodified and modified PHBV surfaces.
Figure 6 exhibits that the unmodified hydrophobic PHBV
surface attracts the most amount of fibrinogen among the four
types of different PHBV films. In more detail, the amount
of fibrinogen adsorbed on NH3 plasma-treated surfaces was
~10% less than that adsorbed on unmodified surfaces. Actually,
there was no statistically significant difference in fibrinogen
adsorption between these two surfaces. After the linkage of
PEG-containing cross-linkers, the adsorbed amount of fibrinogen
on PHBV-PEGMA surfaces decreased by 40% from that on
unmodified surfaces because of the nonfouling properties of the
introduced PEG chains.
