The initial thermal stresses could reach such a level forming micro-cracks and weakening the hot face structure, which would be easily penetrated by steel or slag, leading to fast wear. Bricks with increased stiffness and high thermal expansion coefficient would intensify the thermal stresses at the initial stage of the campaign. A higher preheating temperature and well soaked lining will reduce the compressive stresses at the first heat. |
