ROS generated upon pathogen attack have been proposed to play two different roles: exacerbating the harmful oxidative effect of
infection or participating in the defence response by being toxic to the invading pathogen,contributing to the programmed
cell death during the hypersensitive response, driving the cell wall reinforcement processes as well as serving as signal molecules for the activation of local and systemic resistance

想问一下 加下划线的contributing后边的部分是对:后边那两个的解释还是只对participating in the defence response by being toxic to the invading pathogen的解释?

这是我的理解:病原体攻击所产生的ROS有两方面作用:
(1)...
(2)...

其中(2)又是通过三种不同机制而完成,这三种机制均由“by” 引出(其中后面两个“by”省略了)。

不知道是否理解的正确。
