The field [in which] we are interested can be defined in how the forms, outcomes, and dynamics of economic organisation (firms, networks, markets) are influenced and shaped by other social institutions [. . .] and with what consequences for economic growth, innovation, employment, and inequality. Institutions are usually defined [. . .] as formal or informal rules, regulations, norms, and understandings that constrain and enable behavior. In its ‘Declaration of the Occupation of New York City’, the campaign OccupyWall Street articulates a long list of concerns about irresponsible corporate behaviour with the following preface: ‘We come to you at a time when corporations, which place profit over people, self-interest over justice, and oppression over equality, run our governments’. |
