| Foucault (2000) notes that there is no objective point from which to measure the veracity or effectiveness of a practice. Rather, particular ways of operating emerge as ‘correct’ or ‘appropriate’ through complexes of truth and power (Foucault, 2000). These complexes are not fixed, as evidenced by moves from activity- and pursuits-based pedagogies towards place-based pedagogies in some contexts (Wattchow and Brown, 2011). In examining truth games, Foucault (2000) is not suggesting that a practice is ‘wrong’; he is highlighting that a particular practice is not necessarily the‘only’ response to contemporary issues. |
