Foucault had two starting points in his work. One was practice. Even though Foucault said his work was about uncovering how human beings develop knowledge about themselves, he focused on practice not the individual (Veyne, 2010). By practice he meant the ‘places where what is said and what is done, rules imposed and reasons given, the planned and the taken-for-granted meet and interconnect’ (Foucault, 2002a, p. 225).
