In order to simultaneously achieve brake safety and braking energy recovery requirements of pure electric vehicle, braking system is required to ensure safe braking with minimum friction braking energy. The best solving way is to control the slip rate near the optimum slip ratio match the road pavement. This study proposed a fuzzy self-tuning PID controller equipping with the road identification module for electro-mechanical brake. Simulation results shows that the fuzzy self-tuning PID controller control slip rate more efficiently than single PID controller,  and performs well  in case of varying road surfaces.
