PhD opportunity at Univ.of Pittsburgh (Environmental engineering/Biotechnology)

Openings: The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of Pittsburgh (http://www.engineering.pitt.edu/civil/) is seeking one or two PhD student(s) to work under the guidance of Dr. Na Wei. Prospective students with a M.S or B.S degree (or expected by the time of admission) in Environmental Engineering, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, or related fields are encouraged to apply. The lab research areas include (1) value-added biotransformation using metabolic engineering approaches for the production of renewable fuels and resource recovery from waste and (2) biodegradation and transformation of emerging environmental contaminants and the biological/ecological impacts. The starting time can be Spring 2014 or Fall 2014. The selected candidate will receive graduate assistantship, full tuition, and benefits. Interested applicants with enthusiasm and motivation for environmental engineering/biotechnology may send their curriculum vitae (including GRE and TOEFL scores as applicable) to Dr. Wei at nawei@pitt.edu |

hi,Dr. Wei,i am currently a graduate student majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. i am applying schools and pretty interested in your released information and hopefully i'd like to figure out two problems: 1. are there any mimimum requirements in TOEFL&GRE (especially in sub-band) for Environmental Engineering/Biotechnology PhD programs? 2. if applications for 2014 spring enrollment still available, then the application deadline would be? |

Hello, thanks for your interest. As for your questions: 1. are there any mimimum requirements in TOEFL&GRE (especially in sub-band) for Environmental Engineering/Biotechnology PhD programs? You may find more information here for admission to CEE at UPitt: http://www.engineering.pitt.edu/Admissions/CEE_Graduate_Default/ 2. For Spring 2014 admission, we would like get applications into the system by the end of August. |

Thank you for your timely reply. I've already sent you my CV, and hope you could have a look at it. Since my GRE AW section is only 3.5, while "The 'competitive' score range for the GRE quantitative section is 650-800 and 4.5-5.5 for the analytical section.", I wonder whether my application to this PhD program is qualified or not. Looking forward to your suggestions. |
