  Abstract:  Effective initiation and implementation of strategic information systems projects needs Co-operation throughout the organization. As a senior executive responsible for IS, chief information officer (CIO) must exercise influence to obtain others' support, especially a high degree of peers' commitment. Base on previous studies about influence behavior and leadership, this paper identify five influence behaviors which most frequently used in lateral influence attempts, and categorize them into soft behavior, neutral behavior. Then the potential relations between the two categories influence behaviors and peer's commitment are described. Finally, the paper suggests the mediating effect of trust in the relationship between CIO lateral influence behaviors and peer's commitment. © 2008 IEEE.
