On the methodological side, you seem to be unaware of the fact that you are dealing with compositional data. For instance, in fig. 13 you try to smooth percentage values. This is not permitted, because there is no guarantee that the sum of smoothed percentage values is equal to 100%. If you do not believe me, try it with for example three variables such as QFL, which sum to 100%. I strongly advise you to use log-ratio methods, which are the only reliable way to draw conclusions from compositional data. These may also serve to provide a more quantitative statistical treatment of the data, for example if would like to demonstrate that compositions vary spatially and/or stratigraphically. The fact that not all researchers are aware of this should give you a head start over many other studies which do not truly exploit the information in the data.
