| The value of H2 at a refinery depends primarily on the cost or the limiting factor of making the next increment of hydrogen and the use the refinery would have for the next increment of H2 produced. The following table illustrates the wide range of values a refinery might have for incremental H2. At the low end, the value could be the cost of replacing incremental H2 at a modern highly efficient H2 plant that is not constraining the refinery. In this case, the value of recovering 5 MMSCFD of H2 from fuel and backing out production at the H2 plant is about 0.6 MM$/yr. The value of H2 progressively increases as the cost of incremental H2 increases and the alternate disposition is lower. |
