| Both options are valid but the multiple elements/cases might create a lack of depth in any single element and therefore not be of use to those who seek depth of analysis. A second option as in analyzing a single element/case might lack a breadth of analysis and therefore not be considered complete. !°What motivates the researcher to consider a largenumber of cases is the idea of generalizability, a term that holds little meaning for most qualitative researchers !°(Glesne & Pehkin, as cited in Creswell, 1989, p. 63). 3. Challenge/Requirement to create a rational and well-perceived strategy for purposeful research tools. Such a strategy will include a persistent sampling strategy for choosing social elements to be researched (case) and to select the best available information about the social elements/case prior to initiating the research. 4. Challenge/Requirement to have a sufficient amount of information to create a detailed in-depth analysis. Such a challenge often limits the true value of the study, as the social research and data collection is never complete. Due to the dynamic nature of the social research, any predetermined, self-imposed limitations might allow the research to finish but the true value of such inquiry might be gone. |
