This synthesis is a modification of the procedure of Atkinson and Polya.12 1-Bromoalkane (102 mmol) was slowly added to a cooled methanolic (50 mL) solution of sodium methoxide (from 101 mmol of sodium) containing 1,2,4-triazole (101 mmol). The stoppered reaction flask was stirred at ambient temperature for 2 h and then warmed at 60 °C for 20 h. Methanol was removed to give an oil. The product was extracted from the oil with hot benzene (60 mL) and then hot chloroform (3 *60 mL) and isolated under vacuum distillation. |
