Congratulations! On the recommendation of the燚epartment of Chemistry and Biochemistry (and if applicable, contingent upon receipt of official GRE scores at a satisfactory level and of your official transcript showing conferral of your baccalaureate degree), we are pleased to admit you formally into the Graduate School of the University of Notre Dame to pursue work toward the燚octor of Philosophy degree, beginning with the燜all 2011 semester.

To assist you in this endeavor, we are offering you a full爐uition scholarship (including payment of the technology and health center access fees), worth approximately?39,710 for the 2011-2012 academic year.?We are also pleased to offer you a position as a燝raduate Assistant for the?2 month period beginning in燗ugust 2011.牋This appointment may require service to the department and carries a taxable stipend of $24,000.?Stipend and tuition support are爎enewable in subsequent years subject to the availability of funds, provided you maintain satisfactory progress toward your degree.
?br /> Another financial benefit to Notre Dame graduate students is University subsidy of health insurance.?For students receiving full funding (full tuition and stipend) as defined by their department, the燝raduate School will爌rovide a subsidy towards the?annual premium cost.?In 2010-2011 the base subsidy was $930.?For more details, please consult your director爋f graduate studies.

The University of Notre Dame Graduate School believes in holistic education. For this reason, we promote our students?professional development so that when they assume their careers ?whether in academia, the private sector, government, or non-governmental organizations ?they do so fully prepared and with confidence. Our graduate programs encompass four key components: expertise in research, intellectual breadth, ethics, and career advancement.

Professional development funds are available through multiple units on campus.?The Graduate School offers three funds: the Downes travel grant to assist students who take short courses elsewhere, the Zahm Research Grant for dissertation research involving travel, and the Notebaert Professional Development Fund that is not restricted.?The Graduate Student Union in collaboration with the Graduate School offers some support for conference presentations.

Please note that students cannot ordinarily receive full support from more than one source.?If you燼re awarded爀xternal funding (whether tuition scholarship or爏tipend support),爐he external爁ellowship爏hould be used before Notre Dame support.?If you have been or are awarded an additional fellowship, please contact Dr. Nyr閑 McDonald in the Graduate School for implementation details.

In connection with your admission and financial support, we are爀nclosing for your reference a resolution from the U.S. Council of Graduate Schools. 燗s outlined in the agreement, if you accept any form of financial aid from爋ne of the approximately 370 member institutions before April 15, 2011 and leave it in force after that date, you must obtain a written release from that institution before accepting an offer from another member institution. If you have already accepted an award from another member institution, please withdraw that acceptance before April 15, 2011 or present a written release from that commitment before accepting awards from Notre Dame.
