In terms of both scope and mildness of conditions, these catalysts for the Suzuki reaction fare well when compared with other catalysts that have been described, and in a number of instances they display reactivity that has no precedent. Preliminary mechanistic work suggests that a palladium monophosphine complex may be the active catalyst, and it is likely that the steric bulk and the electron-richness of the phosphine are the key to the activity of these systems. Ongoing studies are directed at additional mechanistic investigations and at the development of other applications of P(t-Bu)3 in palladium-catalyzed crosscoupling processes. |
