Reviewer #1: In this manuscript, the author prepared visible-light active TiO2/CdS composites using a sol-gel method and investigated their photocatalytic activities for degradation of methyl blue.  This manuscript is not recommended to be published in Applied Surface Science because it lacks something new in either preparation, surface characterizations or physicochemical properties of incorporated TiO2.  The experimental design is not solid to come out important conclusions.  Moreover, the descriptions and explanations about the results are not rational.

This paper reports the use of **** as a support and the effect of ### as a stabilizer of Pd nanoparticle. As the XPS, TEM and other characterization results indicate, the new support shows the interaction with Pd ion to give high dispersion of Pd metal. In the catalytic hydrogenation of *****, the supported Pd catalyst shows higher activity and selectivity than usual Pd/Al2O3, SiO2, or carbon. The detailed characterization is characteristic of this work, and the results are reasonably explained. But there are several English problems needed to be corrected. With this revision, I would recommend this paper for publication.

Referee's comments:

The topic of the manuscript is of considerable interest to the scientific community. The manuscript is well written (still however careful proof reading is needed), the data are well presented and discussion adequate and on a good level. The manuscript contains new and interesting results on the synthesis and photocatalytic behavior of ZnO/SnO2 composite photocatalyst. However, the paper still needs some minor revision.
1. The manuscript sometimes is being unnecessarily wordy.
2. I am not sure if the quality of figures is good enough.
3. Figure 2 and its label has to be separated, they overlap in my version of the manuscript.
