The results were analyzed and discussed through the standardized  research method of pytochemistry.  Volatile components in the Rhizome of Panax japonicus from Guizhou and Panax japonicus 1 from Hubei were divided into the basic components and typical components. On the basis of study mentioned above, the major components, minor components and modificated components were subdivided and the components in these two species are almost the same. It shows they exist close phylogenetic relationship.  The modificated components and typical components have dozens of ingredients, which  indicated that there are great differences between them. Panax japonicus 1 experienced the process from the wild species to artifical planting and  variability is the primary tendency in the process of growth.
From studies about the biological synthesis and transformation, it suggested the acetic acid-malonate pathway (AA-MA pathway) and mevalonic acid pathway (MVA pathway) are principal in growth of Panax japonicus. Thus, the content of acidic compounds in two kinds of essential oils  is higher, in which the content and types of sesquiterpenes are higher.
