The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for graduate students (MSc, Ph.D.) / Postdoctoral Fellow in the areas of development of environmental sensing and AI, Lithium-Ion Batteries, carbon fibers, Multifunctional 3D printing, sensors, machining, and mechatronics or related areas.

Job Description:

Positions are available in the Multifunctional Engineering Dynamics Automation Lab (MEDAL) at the University of Calgary for graduates to join an interdisciplinary team developing a wide variety of novel applications. The work will also involve developments, design, fabrications, characterizations, and application and the researcher will be closely collaborating with the sponsoring companies.  In addition, the researcher would mentor other team members.

The potential candidates should be prepared to relocate, if necessary, and begin work with us as soon as possible.


Qualifications:
Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in the engineering field with a focus (one or more) in materials engineering, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, etc. Hands-on Experience with sensors, AI, manufacturing is advantageous. The successful candidates will have a proven record of success and be able to conduct research independently as well as be part of a team. Good oral and written communication skills are essential.

Multifunctional Engineering Dynamics Automation Lab (MEDAL) www.ucalgary.ca/medal investigates micro and nanoengineering specifically dealing with fabrication and development of novel applications, Li-Ion Batteries, Solid State batteries, AI, 3D printing, sensors, pipeline engineering, vibrations, etc.  There are approx. 25 people working in the lab. We currently occupy 6 laboratories.



Recruiting students in the following areas:


•        Environmental Sensing using spectrophotometry and AI (URGENT)
•        Li-Ion Batteries
•        Communication and Signal processing – wireless communication, lock-in amps, etc.
•        Mechatronics - robotics, machine tools
Multifunctional 3D printing
•        Artificial Intelligence and Industry 4.0
