The resulting solution was stirred for 3 h and then concentrated to a yellow oil by rotary evaporation under reduced pressure. Adding chloroform to the oil resulted in the formation of colorless crystals that were isolated by vacuum filtration. TLC indicated that the crystals were not the desired product 2, but most likely triphenylphosphine oxide. The remaining material was purified by flash chromatography (1.5% v/v CH3OH in CHCl3). Chromatography was repeated twice more to complete the separation of 2 from triphenylphosphine oxide and diisopropylhydrazine, and thus afford 2 (6.71 g, 14.3 mmol, 93%) as a colorless oil. |
