男,博士,研究员,中国科学院院士,亚太材料科学院院士,第三世界科学院院士。《Crystal Growth & Design》,《结构化学》和《波谱学》杂志副主编,《Inorg. Chem. Commun.》,《Inorg. Chim. Acta》,《J. Mol. Struct.》,《中国科学B版》和《化学进展》等杂志编委。
     现任中共福建省委委员,中国科学院福建物质结构研究所所长,所学术委员会副主任,国家光电子材料工程技术研究中心主任,国家纳米评估中心副主任,国家纳米中心学术委员,国家自然科学基金委无机化学学科评审组组长,国家纳米重大研究计划专家组成员。1978年毕业于福州大学化学系,1981年获中国科学院福建物质结构研究所硕士学位。1985年-1987年在美国密执安大学化学系和伊利诺依大学化学系做访问学者,1992年-1993年在英国纽卡斯尔大学化学系做访问学者,1996-1998年曾两度在日本名古屋大学化学系做JSPS访问教授并获得博士学位。主要从事新材料与器件、无机功能材料、纳米材料、无机-有机杂化材料的制备、结构与性能的关系和应用研究。1998年开始主持国家自然科学基金重大项目课题,同年获国家自然科学杰出青年基金资助。目前正在开展国家自然科学基金重点“金属-有机纳米分子与功能材料”、国家科技攻关“光功能纳米陶瓷材料”和福建省重大专项“新材料与器件”等项目研究。1993年获得国务院政府特殊津贴,1994年获得物理学会首届王天眷波谱学奖,2001年获人事部和中科院先进工作者称号,2002年度被评为中科院优秀研究生导师和被福建省人民政府授予优秀专家,2003年获福建省先进工作者称号,2004年被福建省评为优秀科技工作者,2004年获福建省杰出科技人才奖,2005年当选第三世界科学院院士,2006年获全国杰出专业技术人才奖和福建省科技特别贡献奖。发表论文近三百篇,申请专利8项。
