In conclusion, our study demonstrates the efficacy, for a rapid screening of anti-oxidants, of combining cell-free methods, such as the DPPH assay, with biological tests using cells in which the effects of reactive oxygen species can be modulated by changes in the anti-oxidant defenses. The paradox of finding anti-oxidant properties assigned to pro-oxidant compounds could be explained by the involvement of free-radical formation in both pro-oxidant and anti-oxidant activities. 55555555555.PNG |
