We will build algorithms to plan operations that require forceful collaboration between a team of robots; e.g. a drilling operation, where some robots grasp and hold a workpiece stable, while another applies force with a driller. The planner will decide on the robot actions and the grasping locations on the workpiece to perform such operations. We will build a robotic system, which starts from a set of parts (e.g. planks of wood), and plans an action sequence (e.g. cutting, then drilling, then fastening) to build a product (e.g. a wooden chair). Value: This studentship, which is open to UK, EU and international students, will cover academic fees and a maintenance grant matching the Research Council UK rate (¡ê14,057 for session 2015/16). Number of awards: 1 Entry requirements: Applicants must have a minimum of a UK upper second class honours degree (2.1), or equivalent, in computer science, mechanical engineering, electronic and electrical engineering, mathematics, robotics or another closely related discipline. If English is not the applicant¡¯s first language, they must provide evidence that they meet the University¡¯s minimum English Language requirements.
