µ¥Î» University College London, UCL Cancer Institute ÏîÄ¿¼ò½é It is estimated that one in two people born in the U.K. after 1960 will have a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime and the global incidence of cancer is rising. Cancer is a complex set of diseases that share a feature of inappropriate control of cell proliferation. In order to design better prediction, detection and treatment approaches we need a better understanding of basic cellular control mechanisms. This project is designed to train a Malaysian National to undertake cutting-edge research in basic cellular control mechanisms that have important implications in the development of cancer. This 3-year PhD Studentship in the UCL Cancer Institute will commence in the 2015/16 academic year (ideally between Feb and June 2016). Funding is from a collaboration between the UCL Cancer Institute Research Trust and a Malaysian Charity partner; UCL fees at the overseas rate and stipend commencing at ?16,321 per annum are included. Applicants should hold at least an Upper Second Class Honours Degree (2.1). Candidates will also need to meet UCL¡¯s English language proficiency requirements. They should have a strong academic background in the biological sciences and a demonstrated desire to pursue research in line with those of the Cancer Institute¡¯s research groups. A Master¡¯s degree and research experience are also highly desirable. This studentship is only open to applicants of Malaysian Nationality who hold a valid passport. The UCL Cancer Institute (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/cancer/) is the hub for cancer research at University College London. The Institute draws together over 300 talented scientists who are working together to translate research discoveries into developing better, more effective treatments and outcomes for cancer patients.
