Abstract:

The different concentration N-doped TiO<inf>2</inf> powders were synthesized by mechano-chemical method, using urea as nitrogen source. The crystallization property of N-TiO<inf>2</inf> samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), and its photocatalytic activity was evaluated by methylene blue photodegradation. Furthermore, based on the first-principle, the energy band structure of different concentration N-doped TiO<inf>2</inf> powders were analyzed. The experiment results indicate that all of the crystal type of N-doped TiO<inf>2</inf> samples are anatase, which have well crystallization and possess similar size; the TiO<inf>2</inf> doped with 2wt% N presents the highest degradation efficiency in methylene blue photodegradation. Theoretical analysis indicates that impurity levels are introduced to the top of the valence band because nitrogen atoms substituted oxygen, and the optical absorption threshold wavelength exhibites a red shift. As the N concentration increasing, the band gap narrows, and the valence band width increases first, then decreases, which demonstrats the existence of peak photocatalytic activity of N-doped TiO<inf>2</inf>.
