A Ph.D. position availabe in Soil Biogeochemistry at the University of Wyoming 已有1人参与

The Soils and Environmental Biogeochemistry Group at the University of Wyoming, Laramie, Wyoming, USA, has one Ph.D. graduate student position opening immediately. The student will be supported by the university fellowship for 2 years and a research grant for another 2 - 3 years. The first-year stipend has an augmentation of $8,000 on the top of $21,500. The student will work on either phosphate (P) cycling in air-borne dusts, or coupling of Mn and C redox cycles via microbial processes. The student will learn advanced analytical techniques, including synchrotron-based X-ray absorption spectroscopy, X-ray atomic pair distribution function analysis, and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The ideal candidate will have a MS degree in soil science, geochemistry/chemistry, environmental science and engineering, and geomicrobiology with a strong background and interest in chemical, mineralogical and microbial processes. There are specific requirement regarding GRE scores and GPA. The applicant should score at or above the 80th percentile on either the Verbal (>= 158) or Quantitative (>= 160) section of the general GRE test and the Analytical Writing portion of >= 4.0. The GPA should be above 3.3 for undergraduate applicants. If the applicants have Masters’ degrees, the GPA of the Masters’ degrees should be above 3.5. Applicants may also be considered “outstanding” if they demonstrate success in research and publication authorship.
