The research proposal, on which we place a great deal of importance, should indicate clearly: The area of study (i.e. what you intend to study) What the existing scholarship is on the topic, and how your work relates to it The research question to be answered (i.e. what original contribution to knowledge you intend to make). Ask yourself, what is the question to which my doctoral thesis will be the answer? How you intend to answer it i.e. the methodological approach you will take to the question. To sum up, in order to succeed, a doctoral dissertation (called a DPhil at Oxford) must: Have something to say Be based on original research Be written in accurate English (please note our language requirements) |
