The C=C stretching vibration frequency is decreased by the increased conjugation length of polyene, because with the increase of the conjugation length, the π-electrons delocalization tends to equalize the CC bond lengths, for instance decreasing the bond order of C=C bonds, thus resulting in a lowered lower C=C stretching frequency for longer polyene.
