求植物学大神翻译下：树干上的"whorl "是什么意思？

We developed a regression model for predicting branch needle mass based on branch size and whorl position within the crown (Mencuccini and Grace 1996) 我了解的枝好像没有轮生的概念，只有叶子有轮生概念，但枝在干上又有类似于叶在茎上的生长规律，有些植物一个枝节点上能长出多个枝，而且朝向不同方向.. 期望植物学大神给出whorl 的定义 |
