(1) Natural convection causes the non-uniforms distribution of solid-liquid interface both for the pipe model and the cylinder model in the circumferential and axial direction. (2) Combined heat conduction and natural convection cause to enhance the heat storage performance better for the horizontal cylinder model than that for the horizontal pipe model. (3) Compared with different HTF inlets, for pipe model, the vertical model with bottom HTF inlet offers best heat storage performance, for cylinder model, the horizontal model and the vertical model with bottom HTF inlet are almost equal on the performance, and any one model with top HTF inlet is inefficiently enhanced by natural convection. |

(1) Natural convection caused a non-uniform distribution of solid-liquid interface in the circumferential and axial directions both for the pipe and the cylinder models. (2) Combined effects of heat conduction and natural convection led to an improved heat storage performance for the horizontal cylinder model more so than that for the horizontal pipe model. (3) Compared with the performance in heat storage for devices with different positions for HTF inlets, for pipe model, the vertical model with a bottom HTF inlet offered the best heat storage performance, for cylinder model, the horizontal model and the vertical model with a bottom HTF inlet were almost equal on the performance, and natural convection did not apparently enhance the heat storage performance in any one model with a top HTF inlet. |
