The glycosidic linkages of LSPs I and II were determined by methylation method and analyzed by GC/MS. As shown in Table 4, the glycosidic linkages of LSP I were in coincidence with those of LSP II.¡ú6)-Glc-(1¡úwas detected in both LSPs I and II. However, ¡ú2,4)-Glc terminal was only found in LSP I.Galactose had two linking forms,which were¡ú3)-Gal-(1¡úand¡ú6)-Gal-(1¡ú, respectively. The glycosidic linkages of Mannose in LSP I and II were significantly different. LSP I had¡ú2)-Man-(1¡úand¡ú3,6-Man-(1¡ú, whereas LSP II had¡ú2)-Man-(1¡úand¡ú3)-Man-(1¡ú. Arabinose and fructose were found to be linked as¡ú5)-Ara-(1¡úand¡ú3)-Fru-(1¡ú. Furthermore, the rela-tive molar percentage of each linkage was different between LSPs I and II. ¡ú3)-Gal-(1¡úhad a higher relative molar percentage than¡ú6)-Gal-(1¡úfor LSP I. Nevertheless, an opposite result was obtained for LSP II.
