2.7. Serum Adsorption Tests by Optical Waveguide Lightmode Spectroscopy (OWLS). Nonspecific protein adsorption from serum was tested on unmodified and various modified PHBV films by OWLS.30,33 In brief, 2 wt % of PHBV was spin-coated onto waveguide chips, and subsequent surface modifications were carried out as described in Section 2.1. For comparison with the properties of MAL-PEG-grafted PHBV films, CH3OPEG-grafted PHBV films (PHBV-PEGOCH3) were prepared by the reaction of NH3-plasma-treated PHBV with 2 mM N-hydroxysuccinimidyl ester of methoxypoly-(ethylene glycol) propionic acid (mol wt 2 or 5 kDa, NHS-PEG-OCH3, Jenkem Technology Co. Ltd., Beijing, China) in HEPES-NaCl buffer (10 mM HEPES, 150 mM NaCl, pH 7.2) for 1 h. |
