Based on the panel data of R&D input and the urbanization level from 2002-2012 in 30 different provinces, the effect of China’s R&D input on the urbanization level was analyzed by using root test, the co-integration test and error correction model. Results showed that: ①there is a long-term stable relationship between China’s R&D input and the urbanization level, but the impact of technological innovation on the level of urbanization is still very weak. In addition, there are big differences between the input-output elasticity of R&D in different provinces. Among the two input-output elasticity of R&D expenditure and R&D personnel input, both are very high in Shanxi, Sichuan, Yunnan, Chongqing, Jiangxi Ningxia and Gansu, both are low in Beijing, Tianjin, Neimenggu, Heilongjiang, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Shandong, Hubei, Hainan, Guangdong and Xinjiang, while in other provinces, one of them is high and the other is low. ②Input-output elasticity in R&D personnel is generally higher than that in R&D funds, which indicates that R&D personnel plays a more important role in the urbanization of China. ③The effect of R&D input to urbanization is related with the level of urbanization and the coordination degree of R&D input and urbanization is also a key factor that influences the R&D input and output. ④Error correction model results indicate that there is a lag effect in the influence of R&D short-termed input on urbanization. |
