Although there are no distinct differences observed in cell density among the three modified films (Figure 3b-d), the cell morphology on the NH3 plasma-treated surfaces (Figure 3b) or the PEGMALlinked surfaces (Figure 3c) look rather different from that on the RGD-modified surface (Figure 3d). The former are mainly round and flattened (Figure 3b,c), whereas the latter are mostly spindle-like (Figure 3d), similar to normal 3T3 cells. Such differences are most shown in Figure 4, one day after cell seeding, there were slightly more cells that adhered to the RGD-modified surface than to the unmodified surface. After 3 or 5 days of culture, the amount of living cells on the RGD-modified film dramatically increased and is significantly more than that on the unmodified film. |
