K2CO3 catalysts were selected for catalytic gasification to increase carbon-water reaction and methanation reaction rates. Catalyst loading methods included dipping solution and dry mix. By dipping solution, the catalyst was more evenly distributed and was able to access to coal gap, which made it possible for K to interact with such functional groups as -COOH and -OH and form reactive intermediates C-O-K, functioning as a catalyst. On the other hand, catalytic gasification was best operated at low temperature and high pressure. Therefore, fluidized bed was the most suitable furnace. However, since there was a big difference in the density and particle size between K2CO3 and the selected coal, stratification phenomenon was prone to occur when dry mix method was used for catalyst loading in the flow fluidized bed in the gasification process, which made it difficult for catalyst to bind coal well. |
