| These capacitors use a phenomenon that can form an oxide layer on aluminum and other metals like tantalum, niobium, manganese, titanium,zinc, cadmium etc. in an electrochemical process, which blocks the flow of electrical current only in one direction. This was discovered in 1875 by the French researcher and founder Eugène Ducretet. He coined the term "valve metal" for this kind of metal. |
