Abstract: A novel lead complex, [pb(MeOH)2L2]n, is obtained through solvent synthesis from Pb(NO3)2, 2-bromo-4-methylbenzoic acid and Na2CO3 in a mixed solvent of methanol and water (2:1, v/v). In each structural unit, one Pb(II) ion is connected to two 2-bromo-4-methylbenzoic ions and two methanol molecules according to a coordination number of 8. Two adjacent lead atoms are bridged in the form of Pb—O—Pb coordination bond by the other oxygen atom of 2-bromo-4-methylbenzoic ion; The distance between the two adjacent lead atoms is 4.303Å, and the Pb—O—Pb bond angle is 107.6°. Such a structural arrangement leads to the infinite extension of the whole system along the c-axis to form a 1-dimensional chain-like morphology.
