| Examples of utilizing external stimuli such as vapour, heating and mechanical force to reversibly tune the emission intensity are rather scarce at this stage. Among the mechanical force-responsive luminescent materials, one typical example based on a binary complex is adonor (D)–acceptor (A) system, which produces high-contrast fluorescence. This D–A binary system, with rather ill-defined composition, shows various emission colours by a change in donor molecule. Encouragingly, luminophors with well-defined structures obtained by Park’s group and Jia’s group also exhibit the intriguing fluorescence on–off switching property, and it is proposed that the distinct fluorescent properties can be attributed to varying excited states (Jia’s group) and different rates of electron transfer (Park’s group). |
