As shown in Fig. 6 (the crests and troughs), the speed-time curve shows a oscillation phenomenon, which is because that the crack propagates faster along a straight line than along a turning point during crack propagation. When the crack propagates from a turning point back to a straight line, the speed has a sudden acceleration process and then restores to an approximate uniform motion. |

Waviness in the propagation speed-vs-time curve is evidence that cracking along cleavages is periodically impeded by changes in the long-range order of the material's microstruture waviness = peaks and valleys 或 crests and troughs 日常英语随便, periodically 不一定就周期性, 但句子以 waviness 开头,明显考虑到一语双关的可能 impede 比 slow down 更达意 cleavage = 缝,算是一种 long-range order |
