As seen in the photo, local peelings caused by structural spalling have appeared at the upper part of metal line in ASM (B). However, no spalling is found in ASM (C). This indicates the enhancement when compared with AS (A). Table 4 shows the comparison of physical properties and corrosion ratio between the AS (A) and ASM (C) after a field test in. The bulk densities of both specimens are similar to each other, but the apparent porosity in ASM (C) has been reduced 7% in comparison with the AS (A). The corrosion rate of ASM (C) has improved by about 10% in comparison with AS (A) .It is judged that the formation of spinel and CA6 has brought about the densification of the material during the use of magnesia-containing castables. Furthermore, the proper addition of microsilica into castables could reduce the spalling by suppressing the excessive formation of CA6 at movable surface, which resulted in the extension of life time of the steel ladle. |
