where DEa (relative) is the relative partial molar activation energy for diffusion (J/mol), and DEa(free water) is the activation energy for diffusion in free water (J/mol). If the nature of the porewater in compacted bentonite is the same as that of free water, DEa(free water) = DEa(porewater), namely, DEa(relative) = 0. The DEa(relative) values calculated from DEa(free water) for HS and DEa(porewater) for HSe were in the range of 16.2 to 2.2 kJ/mol. A reason might be that the nature of the porewater in compacted bentonite such as viscosity and activity is different from that of free water. More detailed studies are essential for the nature of the porewater in compacted bentonite.  aa.png  bb.png |
