Comparing the concentrations at the surface of bentonite (Co) in a series of diffusion experiments, Co is unchanged with either time or temperature. Because the tracer solution includes 50 ppm of Se(6.310 4M) as a carrier, Se is believed to have precipitated at the surface of the bentonite and the boundary concentration is controlled by the solubility of Se. The Da values for Se were determined by a least squares fit to the concentration profiles. In the actual calculations of Da values, IDBENTO1, a numerical analysis code for a least squares fitting based on a difference method, was used. The details of this code were described by Sato and Miyamoto (2001).
