Detailed phase analysis is a topic of ongoing investigations. Based on elemental analysis by Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), the composition in point “A” can be attributed to magnesium aluminate spinel, that in point “B” to aluminum titanate. SUMMARY Based on the positive results of investigations on AZT ceramic, the addition of Al2TiO5 has been shown to improve the thermal shock resistance of alumina-rich magnesium aluminate spinel. In comparison with the pure spinel ceramic, the initial strength of the as-sintered ceramic is lowered, but the retained strength after repeated quenching is increased by aluminum titanate. |
