Existing approaches mainly adopt the concept of lowest common ancestor (LCA), which excessively emphasizes the structural relationships among nodes in XML data. However, semantics of XML data are not fully exploited. The semantics is implied by XML tags. Inspired from relational databases and information entropy, we study how to use the tag weighing to improve the quality of XML keyword search results. We propose the notion of Tag Weighing (TW), which can reflect the importance of value nodes that contained by the tags. Finally, we implement the proposed techniques in our ranking schema.
