PhD project in Earth Sciences (specializing in applied geophysics) Joint inversion of potential field data Project description Recent technological advances suggest that enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) offer a significant potential for ‘environmentally-friendly’ electricity production. What is the potential for EGSs for Quebec? Unfortunately, very limited direct data are available that permit the direct calculation of the heat flow and temperature distribution at depth in Quebec. The evaluation of the potential for EGS is therefore a difficult task and must thus rely on indirect data. The research project consists in developing a joint inversion method of potential field data that will allow studying the structure of the Precambrian basement in the Saint-Lawrence Lowlands. The purpose is to identify, in collaboration with geologists, regions where the temperature at depth could be increased by radiogenic sources. Density and susceptibility models will be obtained using the developed method. To reduce surface focalisation effects inherent to potential field methods, in approach in the wavelet domain will be investigated. Wavelet decomposition allows tackling first the deeper structures and subsequently progress toward the surface. Magnetic and gravity data will be inverted jointly to increase the resolution. Supervisors: Erwan Gloaguen, Bernard Giroux Degree level: PhD in Earth Sciences Scholarship & project funding: INRS provides financial support to all its students. The PhD project will be funded through an NSERC grant in partnership with Hydro Quebec. 楼主啊，终于见到找地球科学的了，还是地球物理。真是倍感亲切啊！唉，难得难得 感慨够了，来说点实际的。小弟刚好本科是地球物理（国内211重点地球科学为特色的院校，估计楼主也许能猜到），13年本科毕业，现在在本校被推硕博连读了。目前相当与是硕士1年级，下半年就研二了，但是这个硕博连读有个最大的缺点就是不让参加硕士答辩，所以是没有硕士文凭的。但是目前我正在准备出国的事宜，雅思已考（6.5），也报了下一次（7.12）的，准备争个7，什么英语的成绩单、学位证明、毕业证明都是齐全的，也公正过了。说了这么多，就是想问一下楼主，我没有硕士文凭，能不能以本科生的身份去申请哈（GPA：89/100） |
